Teachers Health Group (THG) has announced the appointment of Ms Simone Tregeagle as its next CEO, with the leadership transition to take effect from 1 July 2026.
The internal appointment marks a new chapter for Australia’s largest industry-based health fund, following the planned retirement of long-serving CEO Mr Brad Joyce, who has led the organisation for the past 20 years.
Currently THG’s Chief Customer Officer, Ms Tregeagle brings nearly three decades of leadership experience across Australia’s private health insurance sector. She has previously held senior executive roles, including CEO positions at RT Health and Transport Health, and has led organisations through periods of significant transformation, integration and cultural renewal.
Teachers Health Group Board Chair Ms Maree O’Halloran said the board was proud to appoint a leader with deep organisational knowledge and strong connections across the education and healthcare communities.
“Simone’s appointment reflects the board’s commitment to continuity, stability and member-focused leadership,” Ms O’Halloran said.
“To date, Simone has been instrumental in shaping our strategy, strengthening our operations and ensuring we continue delivering value for our members.”
Ms O’Halloran also paid tribute to outgoing CEO Brad Joyce, acknowledging his two decades of leadership.
“Brad has led the organisation through a period of remarkable growth and operational transformation, positioning THG as a trusted and leading private health insurer,” she said.
“He has always led with integrity, empathy and a genuine belief in supporting the education and nursing and midwifery communities.”
Mr Joyce said Ms Tregeagle’s appointment would ensure continuity while bringing fresh energy to the role.
“Throughout her time at Teachers Health Group, Simone has displayed a passion for innovation alongside an unwavering commitment to the communities we serve,” Mr Joyce said.
“I have every confidence she will respect Teachers Health’s strong foundations while propelling the organisation forward.”
Ms Tregeagle said she was honoured to take on the role and to lead an organisation with a strong sense of purpose.
“For more than 70 years, this organisation has existed to serve its members, grounded in a strong mutual, union and not-for-profit ethos,” she said.
“I am excited by the organisation’s trajectory and the opportunity to build thoughtfully on a strong foundation, ensuring it remains resilient, relevant and values-led.”
Ms Tregeagle will formally commence as CEO of Teachers Health Group on 1 July 2026.
