Students in Queensland are set to benefit as 21 independent and Catholic schools share in more than $55 million of state Government infrastructure funding.
The 21 schools will use the funding to help build new classrooms and other facilities.
The grants range from $550 for infrastructure charges to more than $23 million for the construction of a new school, and will go to schools from Agnes Water in Central Queensland, to Chinchilla in the southwest, and Carrara in the south.
Notre Dame College at Bells Creek on the Sunshine Coast will construct new administration and teaching blocks, covered areas, walkways, and other facilities with its $23.8 million grant.
Good Samaritan Catholic College at Bli Bli, also on the Sunshine Coast, will construct new classrooms, administration, library, and other facilities with its $9.2 million grant.
San Damiano College at Yarrabilba will carry out extensive refurbishment and redesign works to create new classrooms, science laboratories, and other facilities with its $9.1 million grant.
Queensland Minister for Education Grace Grace said these are significant projects for these schools and will provide necessary educational facilities for students and the school community.
“The State Government is committed to helping all schools develop the infrastructure they need to provide a world class education for students,” she said.
“Especially now when we need to support the building industry, we are proud to be investing in the future of all our schools.”
“This investment is an example of the Government’s strong focus on creating good jobs and better services to enhance our great Queensland lifestyle.”
The Queensland Government is investing more than $986 million this financial year (2023/24) in non-state schools to support their operations, and for capital projects.
Capital funding is made available to Catholic and independent schools on the recommendations of the two non-state schooling sector Capital Assistance Authorities – the Queensland Catholic Capital Assistance Authority and the Queensland Independent Schools Block Grant Authority.
Member for Caloundra Jason Hunt said the Palaszczuk Government understands the value of education, which is why it is investing heavily in new facilities and infrastructure for Queensland schools.
“The $23.8 million we’re investing in Notre Dame College will play an important role in catering for the growth we are seeing in Caloundra,” he said.
“It’s yet another sign that the Palaszczuk Government is delivering the investment and jobs that Caloundra needs.”
