School leaders navigating the growing demands of digital transformation and AI now have access to a new evidence-informed platform designed to help schools assess and strengthen digital capability.
The Digital Transformation Tool (DTT), aligned with the Australian Curriculum Version 9.0, provides a framework to evaluate digital maturity across four key areas: leading, teaching, learning and managing.
Developed by Australian Curriculum Digital Technologies co-authors Ms Anna Kinnane and Ms Paula Christophersen in partnership with Olive Group, the platform supports schools to make strategic, evidence-based decisions about technology, capability building and future planning.
Ms Kinnane said the accelerating pace of technological change was placing increasing pressure on leadership teams.
“In today’s schools, the pace of change is relentless. New technologies, expanding expectations and now the rapid rise of AI,” she said.
“School leaders are making critical decisions every day, balancing immediate needs with long-term priorities.”
Ms Kinnane said the DTT was created to help schools focus their time, investment and energy where it matters most.
The platform gives schools a detailed understanding of current capability, helping leaders identify strengths, uncover gaps and prioritise improvement opportunities.
“As co-authors of the Australian Curriculum Digital Technologies and the Digital Literacy capability, Paula and I have ensured the platform is contemporary and includes specific reference to AI use in schools,” Ms Kinnane said.
“It is designed to measure what truly matters, because transformation is not only about devices, it’s about building capability across the whole school.”
According to Ms Kinnane, the DTT removes uncertainty from planning by providing practical insights into school-wide readiness.
“It takes the guesswork out of decision making, helping schools invest wisely in people, time and technology,” she said.
The platform also supports schools responding to the growing impact of AI on teaching and learning.
“So when you make a decision, you can be confident it will have real impact in an AI-enabled world,” Ms Kinnane said.
“It’s never been more important to ensure staff and students are equipped with the right skills, supported by a strong whole-school vision.”
Ms Kinnane said the platform was intended to support continuous review and improvement.
“Our Digital Transformation Tool supports schools at every stage of the journey, providing a cycle of reflection, action and growth,” she said.
