Minister Susan Close has taken on the Education and Child Development portfolio in the South Australian Government following a swearing in ceremony this week.

SA Premier Jay Weatherill said the reshuffle was necessitated by the retirement of Jennifer Rankine from the Ministry.

“Beyond the replacement of Minister Rankine it is essentially a fine-tuning of portfolios,” he said.

Other changes include Kyam Maher taking on the job of Minister for Manufacturing and Innovation and Deputy Premier John Rau taking on the new portfolio of Child Protection Reform. Sustainability, Environment and Conservation Minister Ian Hunter gains the new portfolio of Climate Change while Minister Close retains the Public Sector portfolio and takes on Education and Child Development.

Weatherill wished Ms Rankine well in her retirement from the Ministry and said Minister Close will make a fine Education Minister. “Education and Child Development is a crucial portfolio and I am sure Susan will relish the opportunity to meet the challenge it presents,” he said.
