The Australian Secondary Principals’ Association (ASPA) will host its 2025 National Education Summit at Parliament House on Tuesday 25 March, coinciding with Treasurer Jim Chalmers delivering the 2025 Federal Budget.
This summit will bring together a diverse group of stakeholders, including principals, students, academics, policymakers, senior education officials from across Australia, peak non-government organisations, and other key figures, to consider the long term solutions and reforms needed to achieve the ambitious goals set forth in the Alice Springs (Mparntwe) Education Declaration for excellence and equity in education.
The summit’s timing on Budget Day offers a unique opportunity to elevate education as a central focus in the upcoming federal election and underscores the urgency of investing in the future of Australian students.
With the potential for increased funding for public education through the Better Fairer Schools Funding Agreement on the horizon, the summit will provide a vital platform for informed discussion and strategic planning.
The 2025 ASPA National Education Summit will feature a dynamic program, including a ‘fireside chat’ between Minister for Education, Mr Jason Clare MP, and ASPA President, Mr Andy Mison.
Senators Ms Penny Allman-Payne, Greens Education Spokesperson, and Ms Sarah Henderson, Shadow Minister for Education, will also address the summit, offering perspectives from across the political spectrum.
The summit will also feature expert panel discussions with prominent figures in the education sector, including:
- Correna Haythorpe: Federal President, Australian Education Union (AEU)
- Dr Michelle Bruniges AM: Industry Professor, UTS Centre for Social Justice & Inclusion
- Professor Pasi Sahlberg: University of Melbourne
- Chris Bonnor AM: Author and former President, NSW Secondary Principals’ Council
- Professor Jane Wilkinson: Monash University
- Associate Professor Paul Kidson: Australian Catholic University
These panels, along with interactive sessions and workshops, will consider key topics impacting education, including student wellbeing, strengthening and supporting school leadership, and transforming education systems for the future.
“This summit is the only national forum of its kind, bringing together such a diverse range of voices at a crucial juncture for Australian education,” said ASPA President Mr Andy Mison.
“We are confident that the discussions and collaborations fostered at this event will contribute significantly to shaping a brighter future for our students and the education sector as a whole.”
