This term, The McDonald College Acting, Musical Theatre, Ballet, and Music Streams unite to present an exciting season of live theatre and dance productions, highlighting the depth of talent and dedication across the performing arts faculty.

These full-length productions reflect months of rigorous rehearsal and preparation, offering students an experience that mirrors professional industry standards.

Our students work collaboratively with experienced staff, honing their performance skills, developing discipline, and gaining invaluable insight into the demands of full-scale performance. These productions are more than showcases—they are immersive, practical learning experiences that prepare students for the realities of a career in the performing arts.

Here’s what’s on the horizon:

Years 7–9 Musical Theatre Production
22 May
A clever and comedic look at the world of competitive spelling, this musical gives our junior performers the chance to tackle ensemble acting, character work, and intricate vocal numbers in a fast-paced and engaging format.

Years 10–12 Acting & Music Streams: A Midsummer Night’s Dream
03 – 07 June
Our Senior Acting and Music Streams are proud to present a new and reimagined interpretation of Shakespeare’s classic play. Set in a small outback farming community, this version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream places Australia’s magical flora and fauna at the heart of the story, where they disrupt and influence the desires of young lovers in search of connection. With live music performed by students from our Music Stream, this production blends text, movement, and sound in a fresh and atmospheric take on a beloved classic.

Years 7–9 Acting Production: Lord of the Flies
11 – 12 June
This bold and intense adaptation of William Golding’s classic novel explores the breakdown of order and rise of chaos among a group of stranded schoolboys. A powerful piece for young actors, this production challenges students to delve into complex emotional territory and deliver compelling ensemble performances.

Years 10–12 Musical Theatre Production: Chicago
18 – 21 June
A sharp and stylish production of the Broadway hit that explores fame, corruption, and the American dream with biting wit and unforgettable choreography. Our senior students bring their full range of vocal, dramatic, and dance skills to the stage in this bold and challenging work.

Classical Ballet Production: Coppélia
23 – 26 July
A highlight of the Ballet Stream calendar, Coppélia is a full-length classical ballet that combines playful storytelling with elegant, demanding technique. This production gives our dancers the chance to explore character and musicality through precise and expressive movement.

These productions represent the culmination of months of creative development, collaboration, and performance training. We invite you to experience the artistry and professionalism of our students and to celebrate their achievements with us this term.
