Kingswood College is hosting its Kingswood Talks for Term 2 on Tuesday 18 June. The focus of the talk is digital health and wellbeing, presented by Robyn Treyvaud.

“At Kingswood College, our commitment to fostering insightful dialogue and lifelong learning within our community is the essence of our Kingswood Talks sessions,” the College said.

“Through attending this session, our hope is that our community will gain a deeper understanding of how to foster digital health and wellbeing in every day life, ensuring that technology serves as a positive force rather than a source of stress or harm.”

Kingswood Talks are open to the public. The event is free but booking is required. Click here to book.

A globally recognised expert in digital literacy and wellbeing, Robyn will provide invaluable insights into how to navigate the digital landscape in a way that supports and enhances young people’s overall health and wellbeing.

Digital Wellbeing is about making the best use of digital technology and about integrating digital technology into family life in ways that are meaningful and promote individual family values. Meaningful Engagement is about striking a healthy balance of digital technology use in family life. Mitigating the risks and embracing the opportunities afforded by digital technology requires that parents cycle between restrictive and enabling mediation strategies depending on the child, context, parenting style, and family values.

“In today’s fast-paced digital world, understanding and managing young people’s digital health and wellbeing is more crucial than ever. The pervasive influence of technology in our daily lives brings both remarkable opportunities and significant challenges,” the College said.

Here’s why this topic is particularly vital for families:

  1. Mental Health Awareness:

The constant connectivity and information overload can lead to stress, anxiety, and other mental health issues. Learning how to maintain a healthy relationship with technology is essential for psychological wellbeing.

  1. Physical Health Considerations:

Excessive screen time can contribute to a sedentary lifestyle, affecting physical health. Robyn will share practical strategies to balance screen use with physical activity and other healthy habits.

  1. Family Dynamics:

Technology impacts family relationships in profound ways. Understanding how to create a balanced digital environment can strengthen family bonds and ensure that technology enhances rather than disrupts lives.

  1. Cyber Safety:

With the increasing prevalence of cyber threats, it’s imperative to educate ourselves and our children on safe online practices. This session will provide some tools and ideas to protect our personal information and navigate the internet securely.

  1. Educational Impact:

Digital tools are integral to modern education, but they come with their own set of challenges. Effective management of digital resources can enhance learning experiences while mitigating potential distractions.
