The Sydney Japanese International School (SJIS) inaugurated the academic year with an Entrance Ceremony, extending a warm welcome to two Kindergarten classes of 29 new students.
Held in mid-January, the ceremony marked the official commencement of Kindergarten for the young learners.
“Parents, teachers, and students gathered in the school hall, creating an atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and anticipation,” the school said.
“Adding a special touch to the occasion, current students welcomed the newcomers with the school’s special song, ‘Suki – I like,’ performed in both English and Japanese.”
The Entrance Ceremony is a cherished Japanese tradition at SJIS, symbolising the start of an exciting educational journey. It reflects SJIS’s commitment to fostering a strong bond between parents, teachers, and students.
“The ceremony exemplified this sense of community, showcasing the collaborative effort invested in nurturing the young minds that have become a part of the SJIS family,” the school said.
Celebrating the arrival of 29 new Kindergarten students in 2024, SJIS remains steadfast in fostering a supportive and engaging learning environment. Despite being a Japanese school, SJIS features an International Division that welcomes everyone. The NSW curriculum is taught alongside daily Japanese lessons, as well as joint music, art, and PE lessons with the Japanese Division.
