How your floors look is integral to the overall appearance of your school. Tennant Australia shares the D.I.R.T. principle for keeping soft floors and carpets in tip top condition. The D.I.R.T. principle refers to daily carpet care, interim cleaning solutions, restorative carpet care and the treatment of spots and stains:

Daily Carpet Care

Daily cleaning is recommended to remove still-loose particles from the pile and prevent them from being walked into the carpet. High traffic areas benefit from daily cleaning to keep rooms and spaces presentable. Vacuuming is usually all that’s required to lift daily soil. A commercial vacuum cleaner with HEPA extraction is ideal.

Interim Cleaning Solutions

An interim carpet cleaner, ideally one that utilises rapid-drying technology, should be done every month to six months, to bring the floors back to life. This clean lifts the pile, removes surface stains and refreshes the floor making it more visually appealing and more enjoyable to use. The result is the removal of dirt without causing major disruption to the space’s regular use. A carpet extractor equipped with rapid-drying technology works well.

Restorative Carpet Care

Every six to 12 months or possibly longer, depending on the environment and use, Tennant recommends having appropriate personnel schedule restorative carpet care. This results in a good, deep clean, which is necessary to restore the carpet to its original appearance. It eliminates stains, deodorises the space, improves hygiene and adds longevity to the carpet, which saves money long-term. This can be done through the use of a deep extraction carpet cleaner.

Treatment of Spots and Stains

This should be completed whenever required, preferably without delay, to ensure fewer unsightly marks on the floor. Prompt spot treatment is necessary to remove the specific stain before it penetrates deeper into the pile. This can also be completed through the use of carpet extractor.

Adhering to the D.I.R.T. protocol extends the lifetime of the floor covering product and will provide years of service, visual appeal, hygiene and comfort.
