An expanded suite of free, evidence-based vaping education resources is now available to support upper-primary and secondary schools responding to youth vaping as a growing public health concern.

Seeing Through the Haze has been developed by Quit and Cancer Council Victoria in partnership with VicHealth, Monash University, the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) and other partners. Designed specifically for school settings, the resource provides curriculum-aligned learning materials to help educators deliver clear, evidence-based vaping education.

With youth vaping an ongoing challenge for schools, Seeing Through the Haze supports students to build health literacy, critical thinking skills and help-seeking strategies, equipping them to make informed decisions across multiple areas of wellbeing. The resource is suitable for delivery by both school educators and health educators.

Anchored in contemporary education and health promotion principles, Seeing Through the Haze adopts a whole-school, strengths-based approach. It encourages inquiry-based learning and links classroom activities with local communities, cessation support services and Cancer Council Victoria’s Achievement Program.

The student resource is structured as a series of interconnected learning sequences, allowing educators to select activities across three core modules. Getting the Facts develops foundational knowledge about vaping and its health impacts. See Through the Haze examines misinformation and industry marketing tactics, while also exploring cessation support options. Making Change brings learning together, with students applying their knowledge and skills to create a campaign for change within their school or local community.

The suite has recently been expanded to include new lesson cards and additional educator support materials, providing more flexible delivery options. Teaching guides offer answers and discussion prompts, best-practice teaching approaches and clear curriculum links, while professional learning videos outline the purpose of the resource and practical delivery tips from teachers. A new school settings checklist has also been introduced to strengthen a whole-school approach to reducing tobacco- and vape-related harms in school environments.

More information about Seeing Through the Haze and the full range of educator support resources is available at quit.org.au/about-our-education-resources.
