At St Laurence’s College, high achievement or excellence as a measure is relative from student to student.
Introduced by College Principal, Mr Chris Leadbetter and implemented by all staff and students, success is a personal standard and therefore is measured personally.
For one student, receiving a C+ may be the very peak of their ability and was a result that encapsulated months of hard work and tutoring – this is excellence. In the same vain, a student who may receive an A grade with little to no effort and does not reach their full potential does not mean excellence.
The pursuit of excellence is not exclusive to the academic program at St Laurence’s College. This is available across all offerings – sport, music, the arts, service and the various club offerings.
Excellence can be found in the First XV Rugby Union team securing the Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) Premiership, but it can also be seen in the 5C Basketball team who are playing with grit, determination and passion while displaying great sportsmanship. Both are examples of excellence.
The same can be seen in our Arts program with our premiere musicians and artists producing breathtaking work, but excellence can also be seen in our Year 5 Concert Band who are learning something new, following their passions and producing art to the best of their ability.
Above all else, the journey to excellence as a person is the priority at the College – the making of a true Lauries gentlemen who is an excellent friend, student, son and person.
There are countless examples evident every single day here at the College with students striving to achieve their best in whatever facet they desire, and that is excellence.
