The Lakes College is proud to announce that Principal, Mrs Nicole Gregory, has been awarded the ACEL QLD Excellence in Educational Leadership Award.

This prestigious honour recognises outstanding educational leadership demonstrated through projects and initiatives that enhance student learning experiences and achievement, as well as influence educational practice and policy beyond a leader’s own community.

Nicole’s award is a testament to her vision, courage, and dedication to ensuring that The Lakes College continues to shine as “a Light in the Heart of Brisbane’s North.” In receiving the award, Nicole reflected:

“This award honours those who have influenced my leadership journey over the past 35 years and is a recognition I share with the extraordinary colleagues I work alongside each day as we seek to be an educational Light in the Heart of Brisbane’s North. It is truly a privilege to serve in such a noble profession.”

A Season for Growth

Since her appointment in 2021 as the College’s fourth Principal, Nicole has led the community through a season of remarkable growth and transformation. Under her leadership, enrolments have expanded from under 1,000 students to more than 1,160 in just four years. This growth has been underpinned by her clear vision, good stewardship, and an unwavering commitment to authentic care for young people.

Enhancing Student Learning and Wellbeing

Nicole has reimagined how The Lakes College stretches its most able learners while also providing support for its most vulnerable. She has transformed the College’s approach to student wellbeing and faith formation, rebuilding pastoral care structures and creating authentic opportunities for service learning and cultural immersion. These initiatives give students the tools to develop optimism, resilience, and hope – qualities that will guide them for life.

With an eye firmly fixed on the future, Nicole advocates widely for educational innovation and timetable reform, sharing her insights with fellow leaders to ensure that students across Queensland are prepared for a rapidly changing world.

Building Community and Legacy

Nicole is known for her no-nonsense communication style and her ability to authentically engage families, offering reassurance and support, particularly in times of uncertainty. Her leadership has overseen major enhancements to College resources, including the development of a new Multi-Purpose Sports Hall, Swimming Pool, Learn to Swim Facility, Performing Arts Precinct, and several inspiring playgrounds.

Beyond the physical transformation of the College, Nicole’s lasting impact is most deeply felt in the culture she fosters and her leadership alongside the Uniting Church in corporate governance. Her legacy is one of faith, courage, and community—a commitment to shaping young people who will step confidently and ethically into the world.

A Light for the Future

As Principal, Nicole continues to deliver dynamic and rich programs that enliven creativity and curiosity while empowering learners to face challenges, build resilience, and grow in integrity. She believes deeply in the gifts and talents of every individual and is committed to harnessing the strength of the whole community in shaping the College’s future.

The Lakes College congratulates Nicole Gregory on this well-deserved recognition of her outstanding leadership and her tireless commitment to enhancing education in Brisbane’s north and beyond.
