After eight years of outstanding service, Education Services Australia CEO, Mr Andrew Smith, will step down on 30 May 2025.

Mr Smith will continue to make an important contribution to education as the newly appointed CEO of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).

Deputy Premier and Minister for Education Ben Carroll announced Mr Smith will commence as VCAA CEO from 1 June 2025.

Education Services Australia’s current Chief Technology Officer, Mr Stuart Mitchell, will serve as Acting CEO while the board commences the search for its next CEO.

“Under Andrew’s leadership, ESA’s impact has grown significantly, delivering education solutions that have enriched the lives and learning of Australian students,” the organisation said.

The board, executive and staff expressed their heartfelt gratitude for Mr Smith’s accomplished stewardship.

“During his tenure, Andrew played a vital role in enhancing digital education platforms and championing initiatives that have empowered educators and learners nationwide,” said ESA Board Chair Ms Vicki Baylis.

“His commitment to innovation and collaboration has left an indelible mark on ESA, setting a strong foundation for the years to come. While we are sad to see him go, we celebrate his achievements and thank him for his invaluable contribution.”
