Dozens of schools across Victoria have been closed as fire activity continues to disrupt communities, with the greatest impact felt in the state’s north-east.

The Department of Education has advised that no school closures have been reported in the South-Eastern Victoria Region.

However, in the North-Eastern Victoria Region, a significant number of government and non-government schools, outdoor education centres and outside school hours care (OSHC) services have been closed.

Closures include Alexandra Primary School and Alexandra Secondary College, Avenel Primary School and its OSHC services, Buxton Primary School and Buxton Primary School OSHC, Eildon Primary School, Euroa Primary School and Euroa Primary School TheirCare, Flowerdale Primary School, and multiple schools and services in the Kinglake area.

Longwood Primary School and Longwood Primary School Council are also listed among the closures, along with Marysville Primary School, Middle Kinglake Primary School and its OSHC, Sacred Heart Primary School in Yea, St Mary’s School in Alexandra, Yea High School, Yea Primary School and Yea Primary School TheirCare.

Several camps and specialist facilities in the region have also been affected, including Penleigh and Essendon Grammar’s Eildon Camp, Peranbin Primary School’s Strathbogie Campus, Rubicon Outdoor School’s Thornton Campus, the Melbourne Sports Institute in Marysville, and Strathbogie Camp.

In the North-Western Victoria Region, closures have been reported at Harcourt Valley Primary School in Harcourt and Yarra Me in Hurstbridge.

Schools in the South-Western Victoria Region have also been impacted, with Carlisle River Primary School, Forrest Primary School, Lavers Hill Primary School, Natimuk Primary School, Simpson Primary School and Skipton Primary School all closed.

The Department continues to monitor the situation and has advised families and school communities to stay informed as conditions change.
