Western Australian parents and carers with school-aged children are now able to apply for hundreds of dollars in cost-of-living relief to help reduce school expenses, with claims for the 2025 WA Student Assistance Payment now open.
Parents and carers of students from Kindergarten to Year 12, who are enrolled in a WA public or non-government school or registered for home education, can claim the payment until the end of Term Two on Friday, 4 July.
Secondary students are eligible for payments of $250 each, while kindergarten and primary school students will receive $150 each to meet costs of education, including books, IT equipment, sport and music costs, stationery, school shoes, uniforms, excursions, and camps.
The rollout of the program delivers on an $89 million 2025 State Election commitment, with almost 400,000 eligible student claims paid through the initiative during its last round.
WA Education Minister Ms Sabine Winton is encouraging all eligible WA families to claim the payment to help cover the cost of school essentials.
“This important initiative helps Western Australian families ensure their children have what they need to focus on their education and reach their full potential.
“As a mother of three daughters and a former teacher of 27 years, I know that support with school-related costs can go a long way.
“The government is working hard to ensure as many families as possible claim the payment, and I’m pleased that extra assistance will be available to those in the regions that may have missed out last year.”
Eligibility will be validated through each student’s unique WA Student Number (WASN), which can be found on school reports, previous NAPLAN results or SmartRider cards.
Parents or carers of students which do not have a WASN due to starting kindergarten or pre-primary this year are encouraged to contact their school, who can provide them with this information.
Extra support will be offered in regional and other communities that may not have claimed the payment last year, including alternative claim methods and targeted outreach.
