In a landmark moment for Australian education, Barker College proudly hosted the 2025 World Leading Schools Association (WLSA) Global Student Conference, an event that not only placed Barker on the international stage but also showcased the heart of what makes this school exceptional.
From June 28 to July 5, over 200 delegates from more than 15 countries gathered on Barker’s campus for a week of inspiration, connection, and transformation. Under the theme Voices of Tomorrow: Intercultural Leaders in an Age of Innovation, the Conference offered a dynamic program designed to equip young people for leadership in a complex and rapidly evolving world.
What made this event truly remarkable, the College said, wasn’t just the calibre of speakers, though they were exceptional. From Adam Spencer’s insights into AI and the future of technology, to Esther Colwill’s reflections on summiting Mt Everest and leading global enterprises, and Simone Allan’s call for compassionate leadership, students were challenged to think deeply and dream boldly. But the real magic lay in the leadership of Barker’s own students.
The Round Square Committee, made up of Barker students, played a central role in planning and delivering the Conference. These young leaders facilitated sessions, hosted international guests, and coordinated events with poise and professionalism. Beyond the formal program, the week was filled with moments of joy, reflection, and cultural exchange. Delegates bonded over theatre sports, cultural trivia, and a spirited lip sync battle. They shared stories through music and performance during a moving Cultural Night, and explored Sydney’s rich heritage, from the Blue Mountains to the historic Rocks.
