First launched in July 2024 under the Workload Reduction Fund, jointly funded by the state and federal governments, the initiative is already delivering real support to teachers in the classroom.
The pilot is led by the Department of Education, in partnership with Catholic Education Western Australia, the Association of Independent Schools of Western Australia and the School Curriculum and Standards Authority.
WA ClassmAIte is designed to safely and effectively cut down the time teachers spend on lesson planning and preparing classroom materials, freeing them up to focus on what matters most: teaching and supporting our students.
The platform enables teachers to generate lesson sequences, lesson plans and a wide range of classroom resources, with a secure chat function, editable outputs and specialist tools that allow content to be tailored to individual student needs.
As part of this investment, new features will continue to rollout for teachers throughout the year.
The pilot is already gaining strong traction, with 60 schools currently involved, and with the $4.6 million boost as part of 2026-27 State Budget, that number is set to grow to more than 100 by the end of 2026.
The extended trial will open the door for even more schools to come on board throughout 2027, while continuing to expand across the remaining learning areas of the WA Curriculum.
“WA ClassmAIte is a ground-breaking use of technology to significantly reduce the workload of teachers,” Premier Cook said.
“This initiative positions Western Australia at the forefront of safe and effective AI use in education.”
Minister Winton said the ClassmAIte pilot has seen strong early results, with teachers in participating schools benefiting from practical tools that reduce workload whilst delivering and supporting high-quality teaching.
“By combining innovation with strong safeguards and professional judgement, we are empowering teachers to focus on what matters most – supporting student learning and achievement,” she said.
“This trial is one of a number of initiatives the government is undertaking to support teachers with workloads, and I look forward to more schools getting the opportunity to use ClassmAIte and see the benefits.”
