Yarra Valley Grammar Principal, Dr Mark Merry, has congratulated the Class of 2023 on their success in the VCE this year, with four students achieving a perfect score of 50.
“I am delighted to announce that all students achieved their VCE and the results this year were among the strongest in the history of VCE at the school,” Dr Merry said.
Some highlights include:
• 22.4% of students achieved a study score of 40 or more
• The median study score was 35
• There were four perfect scores of 50
• Over 49% of all students in the year level received an ATAR over 90 (81 students). The state average is 9%.
• The median ATAR was 89.50, meaning that almost half the students in the cohort received an ATAR of 90+. They scored in the top 10% in the state and this is the highest in the school’s history.
• The Dux of the school achieved an ATAR of 99.90.
“On behalf of the school, I congratulate the 2023 Dux, Calvin Zhu, who achieved an ATAR of 99.90 and one perfect study score of 50 this year in General Mathematics,” Dr Merry said.
“Calvin also achieved outstanding results in his other subjects, which were Chemistry, English as an Additional Language, Physics and Specialist Mathematics, and in 2022 as a Year 11 student, Mathematical Methods. This is an outstanding result achieved through considerable hard work and dedication.”
Dr Merry reiterated he was “delighted” with the academic efforts of the Class of 2023.
“These very strong academic results were achieved by students who participated fully in the co-curricular life of the School throughout their time with us.
“They also showed great modelling and leadership in their final year as seniors. The combination of supportive parents, effective schoolwide initiatives to improve teaching and learning, committed and skilful staff, a strong culture of excellence and aspirational and hardworking students has all contributed to these very pleasing results,” he said.
“Our students come to us with their own gifts, skills and abilities and we encourage all to attempt Year 12. The emphasis in the VCE at our school has always been on achieving personal best and we are delighted with our VCE results this year and we wish the Class of 2023 all the best with their future endeavours.”
