State-wide recognition for WA educators

Education and Training Minister for Western Australia, Sue Ellery, has announced the finalists for the WA Education Awards, which aims to recognise top educators from across the state.

A total of 43 finalists were revealed, across 11 categories, with winners to be announced in November 2018.

“The WA Education Awards are a stellar opportunity to acknowledge our inspiring teachers, outstanding principals, excellent school support staff and successful Western Australian public schools,” said Minister Ellery.

The list includes teachers, principals, school support staff, and primary and secondary public schools; with Warwick Senior High School topping the list with four staff named as finalists – two teachers, an Aboriginal and Islander education officer and a science laboratory technician.

“I think every one of us can remember a stand-out teacher or other staff from our school days – and today’s group of educators is being rightly acknowledged for the mark they are making on students’ lives,” added Minister Ellery.

“Providing a high-quality education and equipping students for their futures are truly valuable endeavours, and I’m proud to recognise our finalists for their expertise and innovation.”

Winners and finalists will share in $335,000, with a portion of this to be spent on professional development.
